DVD-lab is the answer to all your advanced DVD authoring needs. Too many DVD authoring packages on the market are restrictive, forcing the user to use pre-set DVD templates which might not suit a variety of situations. Ease of use and a wide array of options is the hallmark of DVD-lab, placing it above and beyond the competition..

Most of the consumer DVD authoring tools really underestimate users by holding their hands tight while guiding them through the DVD authoring process. In world where we live, pre-school boys and girls don't buy DVD burners nor produce DVD movies (yet), they are busy with other things. So my question is: Why most of the DVD authoring software tries to appeal to them so badly?

Then there is the higher level of authoring tools which needs months of training and another mortgage to obtain it.

We decided to write a DVD authoring tool which will combine a modern professional interface with easy to use approach, it wouldn't be hard to learn and it will give the user the freedom to create what they want.

The colors of DVD-lab

DVD-lab Standard
DVD-lab was our very first "entry" level authoring tool. However, our "entry" means something different. A solid interface and a great flexibility that gained quite following on the web boards and earned us many great reviews in magazines.
DVD-lab Studio
Two years after introduction of DVD-lab we are pushing the home authoring to the next step again. Studio version fits into the requirement for mid-size DVD authoring tool that takes the no-nonsence approach of Standard version but offers some of the more advanced features from our PRO version.

DVD-lab PRO 2.0
This is our flag-ship version. A fully mature DVD authoring tool that offers all the features of most expensive authoring application together with easy to use and ergonomic user interface. This is first time such a full featured authoring application is offered in a price range accessible for normal people.

DVD-lab PRO 2.0 EDIT SUITE
Combine DVD-lab PRO with the power of EditStudio and you have the full suite of professional tools from video capture, video editing, MPEG encoding to final DVD Authoring
See Comparison.

DVD-lab DVD-lab Studio and DVD-lab PRO are built on a very strong Developer Studio-like model This has a very good reason. Unlike any other DVD authoring tool of this kind you can actually totally reorganize the interface to suit your needs. All Windows are dockable and un-dockable. (Works with multiple monitors as well).
W
hat is beneath is a very powerful multi-tasking engine. The software will surprise you by its overall speed and light feel. Scrolling through a movie and adding chapters is a breeze. While you compile the movie you can actually do other things, even work on other DVD. It has integrated menu creation, connection module and DVD burning module.
It doesn't hide from you advanced aspects of DVD creation yet it covers your back. For example it does Auto-Routing for buttons on menu, but you can switch it off and route the buttons as you like.

Here are common features of DVD-lab versions For more details of PRO version click here.

Movies
You can have 99 titles on your DVD. The software support elementary mpeg streams (or it can demultiplex program stream) 4:3 or 16:9 aspects, NTSC and PAL. As input you can use elementary mpv, mpeg, VOB or Panasonic VRO. With PRO version you can have both aspect ratios on one DVD thanks to Multiple VTS.

Audio
MPEG, AC-3, DTS, WAV, AIFF is supported. From stereo to 6 channel Dolby Digital, you can use it all. PRO version can have up to 8 audio channels in each movie.

Menu
An integrated menu designer with multiple Undo/Redo is already build-in. You can drop backgrounds, buttons, frames, add text and do also other tricks which only professional tools offer - you have P, E1 and E2 subpicture groups, you can change color and transparency of menu subpicture elements for each menu separately add auto-action etc. It will allow you to create lot of different menu types.

Slideshows
A slideshow feature with background audio is available since version 1.3.

Menu transitions
Something no one else gives you. DVD-lab is the first authoring tool to give you a full Menu transitions. Move, Slide Pan, Zoom from one menu to another in seamless fashion. Or use cool effects such as Random Burning, Page Curl or one of the many other filters. You have to see it to believe it!

Menu Effects
All video stills dragged to menu will be auto-deinterlaced and become smooth without jagged edges. You can of course also sharpen or blur objects. But the most fun you will have with the unique Gen-EFX tool. Thousands of effects are at your fingertips - these are effects ranging from basic adjustment to complex effects suitable for creating backgrounds. The more you try the Gen-EFX, the more interesting it becomes. See some example.

Connection
Doing a complex project with many menus and videos? No problem, the connection window will help you to organize the DVD flow. Connect Movies together as you like, set timeout for menus, see the whole design right in front of you.

Best MPEG-2 batch encoder (optional*)
We team up with TMPGEnc to bring you a special version of their favorite encoder/joiner/batch processor. This is the best encoder for the money and it is favorite encoder of many home or professional users.
*During purchase you can decide to have DVD-lab bundled with the encoder.

Strictly multi-tasking
Fast, easy and light. Long process such as DVD compile or demuxing is done on background and you can do other things while it is done. Yes, you can compile a DVD project and in meantime start working on another.

Advanced Exception Handling
All sensitive operations runs as separate process from the main application. Even if something terrible happens your design is safe.

NTSC Safe
You no longer need to go with every image to Photoshop to set NTSC safe colors. There is actually no point doing that, DVD-lab NTSC safe colors produces probably the most accurate output by simulating (and also showing you!) the Video Signal Voltage.

Easy on Restrictions
Many DVD players today are able to play DVD's which are not exactly up to DVD specs. DVD-lab is easy on restrictions. In a questionable cases it will just issue a warning but let you to continue. That means if your DVD player can handle it, you can create DVD with SVCD movies on it (about 6 SVCD discs on one DVD) or directly use SATV mpeg-2 files (544x480/576).

Wizards for the lazy of us
These things will help you to make the project faster, but they are not holding your hands:

Auto-Chapters: You can add chapters manually and it is really easy and fast, but you can also use Auto-Chapters wizard to add chapters to your movie using Cut Scene Detection. (That is it will add chapter-point on the cut scene, not in the middle of scene)

Scene Selection Menus: This wizard can make the scene selection menus from chapter points automatically. You can also create your own template - almost anything can be done.

Menu Template: You can create your own menu template and then use it over and over again.

For Windows 98/NT/2000/XP

Note: You need at least FAT32 on W98 (support up to 4GB file size). However a NTFS volume in Windows 2000 or XP is strongly recommended (no size restriction)

This software is not a plug-my-camera, click button and spill a DVD. It covers the authoring process in details and most notably it doesn't have Video Capturing nor MPEG encoding capabilities. (Yes, we actually believe this is a feature!)
There is a good reason for that:
First of all it push the software price up. Secondly, you probably already have some encoder bundled with your DVD burner. And at last, didn't you realize that most of the consumer software uses the very same medium quality, fast encoder ? So if you have two Video or DVD applications you already probably paid for the same encoder twice.
At this stage I believe adding an encoder will be just a "feature" without the real benefit of it but with the price tag.
of course you can purchase the optional high quality stand-alone Encoder separately.

There are few good and non-expensive video editors or encoders such as TMPGenc which seems more and more people to use (Even if they have bundled encoder in their Video or DVD app) because it gives them much more freedom and options to tweak the result.

DVD-lab favors advanced approach to DVD creation. That means you first must prepare the video and audio files (by any means using software or hardware encoders) and then add it to the DVDlab. DVD-lab quickly checks the validity of files and then you can start creating the DVD.
Many of the low-range consumer software favors other approach. They don't complain if you import invalid files and then during DVD compilation they silently re-encode them to valid DVD files. So instead of 10-20 minute compilation you wait 6-8 hours and you don't know why. Then you change something and wait another 6 hours.
I think this is not suitable for advanced users.

DVDlab will tell you before you start if your MPEG and audio files are valid or not and why. I think you will find this approach much more professional and mostly largely time saving - you can change the whole DVD look and compilation will take just about 20 minutes.

We all hope this software will become popular for its power and low price. Many hours were spent on each detail which is sort of our "trademark" if you know other Mediahance software. We are planning to reinvest all the money from registrations to enhancing it much further. There are many future plans for enhancements: multiple audio streams, subtitle editing and multi-angles.
That means with your help we can make the best authoring software around.
